Using Therapeutic Quality Essential Oils for healing purposes is very enjoyable and easy to do. It is important that you understand how to use essential oils appropriately though, since they are a powerful natural medicine. Remember… a little goes a long way with Essential Oils. Have respect for the powerful healing power stored within each unique oil, and use in moderation.
How to Use Essential Oils
There are three main ways to apply Essential Oils:
1. Aromatically – By using a diffuser; by inhaling directly; or indirectly; using a humidifier, spritzer sprays or mists; as a fragrant perfume oil or cologne; or as a natural room deodorizer with a fan or through a vent, etc. (Scroll down for more Methods of Use.)
*Diffusing Essential Oils is a great way to enjoy the aromatic benefits, and it also removes dust particles from the air, filtering it. I use a therapeutic diffuser called “Breeze”. I like this particular diffuser because it works without ultrasonic waves, heat, or water. It uses cold diffusion that transforms the essential oil into a therapeutic, micro fine vapor with an electric pump. It diffuses an area up to 2,500 square feet! The benefits of using a diffuser include: aromatherapy for relaxation and mood enhancement, respiratory therapy, and defense against airborne viruses, bacteria, mold, and fungus. Many people prefer a simple oil burner made of pottery and a candle to warm the oil, just be careful with an open flame around children and know that essential oils are flammable.
*Aromatherapy Spritzers are a great way to cleanse the aura or a physical area, like a bedroom or other living space, a sacred altar, hotel room, or anytime you want to help calm the energy of people or pets or help someone focus or uplift them, etc. The Energy Cleansing Aromatherapy Spritzer I offer in my Shop, Spiral Elixir, is calming and gently awakens one to clarity as it clears away negative energy and lower vibrations. They’re great for keeping in a purse to reuse throughout the day and can be made at home using your favorite essential oils.
3. Topically – By applying the essential oils directly to the skin (make sure to use a carrier oil when you first begin, and for all “hot” oils), especially the bottoms of the feet, behind or on the ears, and on the wrists. Some people like to put some on their temples or on their neck. They can be applied during massage; in baths; added to lotions, shampoo, or soap; in compresses or poultices; or with a wash cloth, or on the corner of your pillow or the cuff of your shirt. (These are just some of the ways, be sure to experiment and find your own favorite applications!) I use Essential Oils in my specially formulated Dream Pillows and they’re amazing!
Caution: Always test a small area of skin twenty-four hours before using them, especially if you have sensitive skin. Some oils cause photosensitivity and should not be used before exposure to the sun. (These oils are mostly the citrus ones, especially Bergamot and also Angelica.)
3.. Internally – I don’t recommend using essential oils internally! However some will say that… you can cook with and drink some essential oils(?) Be very careful when you decide to use Essential Oils internally that you are using Organic Pure Therapeutic Quality Essential Oils that are safe for consumption (GRAS). Some essential oils should never be taken internally and can be very poisonous if swallowed. There are many oils to avoid during pregnancy as well. It would be wise to have medical supervision if you plan to take a lot of oils, but for general consumption in moderation, do your research and trust your intuition.
